Quantum Talks - “Quantum-Secure Cryptography” by Prof. Dr. Christian Schaffner
We would like to invite you to our first session of a series of Quantum Talks, organized by the Talent and Learning Center of Quantum.Amsterdam. Christian Schaffner will speak on “Quantum-Secure Cryptography” at HvA.
“Quantum-Secure Cryptography” by Prof. Dr. Christian Schaffner
Recent progress in building quantum computers offers new opportunities for cryptography, but also poses a threat to existing cryptographic schemes. I will discuss both aspects of this double-edged sword: On the one hand, a large-scale quantum computer will be able to quickly factorize large numbers into prime factors, thus breaking the security of currently used public-key encryption. The research field of "post-quantum cryptography" investigates the options for replacing currently used classical (i.e., non-quantum) cryptography with quantum-safe variants. On the other hand, quantum computers introduce new security scenarios, such as the secure delegation of a quantum computation to an untrusted server (in the quantum cloud) without compromising the privacy of the input data.
