Event on Bias and AI on March 13 - in honour of International Women's Day

In honour of International Women’s day on March 8 (theme: Women of the Future), the Women+ ERG is organising an event on Bias and AI next week on March 13, starting at 15:30 with an open end around 19:00 at Nikhef Colloquium room (H036a) at the Amsterdam Science Park 105.

On the 8th of March, it is International Women’s Day. The fight for women's rights is an ongoing process, as outlined in the UN report Women rights in review, 30 years after Beijing. One of these rights is the freedom from violence, stigma, and stereotypes.

The afternoon of March 13 is dedicated to learning about (gender) biases in AI. We will see what they look like on our screens using AI tools like Chat GTP. In a lively discussion we will ask questions like 'What effects do (gender) biases have on society?' and 'What are the possible ways to circumvent them?'.

This event is open to everyone who is interested and works at one of the NWO-institutes or at the NWO-office. Find more information on the Program online.

Program

We will see what biases look like on our screens using AI tools like Chat GPT. Camilla Damian (VU University) will give a lecture about gender bias in Natural Language Processing.

Two researchers from CWI, Mae Sosto and Andrei Nesterov will pitch their research on assess gender (non-conforming) biases and machine-readable stereotypes, with which we can see research happening at one of our own institutes on this theme. We will end with a lively discussion on topics as the impact of AI on society and how we can circumvent biases. With drinks and bites at the end we will have the opportunity to discuss further in a more informal way and meet each other.
